Grand Pianos
Digital grand pianos that mimic the appearance of a grand piano, but produce their tone via digital means rather than the traditional hammer striking a string are becoming increasingly popular for players who cannot afford or grand pianos or simply do not have the space. Some digital grand pianos are scaled down significantly from traditional grands, allowing people to use them in their own home. However the size and shape of digital grand pianos does not matter at all as the sound is produced via electronic means, so the shape is just used for aesthetic value.
Many people argue that digital grand pianos can never accurately replicate the feel or the tone of a real piano. However, many manufacturers of grand pianos have developed specially weighted keys that respond dynamically to the players touch in much the same way real grand pianos do.
Digital grand pianos are frequently used by players who play with a live amplified band as a traditional piano cannot compete with amplified instruments and a drum kit in terms of volume without being mic’ed up. Digital grand pianos can be plugged directly into PA systems or played through an amplifier allowing any volume to be selected.
