Dance Music

Since the early eighties electronic dance music has become increasingly accepted in the mainstream/ There are a number of different and developing genres of electronic dance music and it still retains a high level of popularity today. Dance music is created with the intention that it is to be played in nightclubs or similar environments, hence the term dance music. Dance music is currently the most predominantly played form of music in nightclubs and discos around the world.

Dance music is usually played by DJs who play DJ sets in clubs by mixing the various tracks together so they play continuously without any breaks. Dance music is usually released on vinyl records for use by DJs as mixing is achieved by using a pair of turntables.

There are several different and very varied genres within electronic dance music. House music is a very popular form of dance music and one of it’s defining features is the use of a kick drum on every beat. This technique was often employed by disco drummers in the 70s and many people agree that house music is a direct descendant of disco music. Drum and bass is another very popular form of dance music. This type of dance music tends to have a much faster tempo that other type and it originated in the early 90’s from the UK rave scene.

Electronic dance music frequently makes use of sampled vocals and sound effects and it is not uncommon to hear famous quotes and lines of dialogue sampled from films in dance music tracks.
